I work with oils and mixed media, building layers of textures and paints, not only to capture the shifting colours and lights of a sea-scape, but also to conjure the emotions provoked in us as we gaze out to sea.
I spent my childhood in Brighton and have never tired of the changing moods of the skies above the Sussex Downs and the sea below. Horizons and coastlines to me seem little changed but ever-changing and I attempt to convey a lingering mood or memory of what came before, to pervade my paintings with a timelessness, both in the aesthetic and emotional response.
